What is ClarkConnect - a software solution or a service?

Both. Point Clark Networks provides two editions (or Operating System) solutions based on Linux: Enterprise and Community. Every platform can benefit from a variety of optional subscriptions, for example the content filter update service.

What is a CCGS account?

A CCGS account is a ClarkConnect Gateway Service account. It is a portal that allows you to register and manage the servers you install. A single CCGS account can have an unlimited number of servers registered to it. The account is also used for other services such as setting up DNS, registering a domain, managing licenses and purchasing software at the integrated online store. The login page for your CCGS account is located at https://secure.clarkconnect.com/webapp. If you don't have an account, creating one is quick, easy and free - create an account now.

Subscription pricing doesn't work for me - how can I purchase a one time license?

Beginning in the 4.0 version, software licenses and access to updates are available on a yearly basis. For those who prefer a one-time license fee as an alternative to subscription pricing, we offer multi-term licenses from 2-6 years. Once you have built your solution based on a 4.0 or above platform, add it to your online shopping cart. By default, a one year, subscription model is selected.

You can edit the term next to the 4.0 base license, increasing it from 1 to a maximum of 6 years (or the platform's end-of-life) and clicking on the "Update" button. In doing so, discounts will automatically be applied for line entry items associated main license term.

Multi-Term License

Your license for all software/services under the 'umbrella' of the parent license will now extend until the date of the term you have selected. For example, if you were making a purchase on September 1, 2006 and had selected a 4 year term, your solution would be paid in full until September 1, 2010.

Do you have NFP/Edu pricing?

Yes. Point Clark Networks offers discounts on most ClarkConnect software and Gateway Services for education, not-for-profit and government use. To apply for discounts for your organization or department, click here.

Can I download a trial version?

Yes. Thirty (30) day evaluation licenses are available on all ClarkConnect platforms and services. To get started, take a minute to complete the evaluation form that is available here.

Is there a free version of ClarkConnect for home use?

Yes. Point Clark Networks still offers the "Community Edition" free of charge.

I thought Open Source Software was supposed to be free?

Most Open Source Software (OSS) is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). ClarkConnect is no different in this respect in that our source code is freely accessible to anyone. However, one of the biggest misconceptions of the GPL and term 'free software' is that the word free means no charge. This is not true. While some OSS projects derive revenues from donations, advertising, technical support contracts or corporate sponsorship, Point Clark Networks has chosen (like many other companies basing products on OSS) to offer software licenses and optional Gateway Services to fund ClarkConnect's continual evolution and remunerate the team of developers, admins and support staff that are the foundation of any company (and other operating expenses).

Which product should I purchase?

Do you offer shipped goods (i.e. a boxset or CD) instead of by download only?

No. At this time, all software is available via authenticated FTP download only once a license has been purchased.

How do I transfer a domain to my ClarkConnect account?

  • For successful transfers, the domain expiry will be extended by one (1) year.
  • We cannot transfer domains that are On Hold or Past Due with the current registrar. Begin the registrar transfer process at least three to four weeks before the expiration date of the domain.
  • Before attempting to transfer a domain, make sure that the Admin Contact Email for the domain to be transferred is valid. If the Admin Contact Email address listed in the current WHOIS info is no longer valid, you must contact the original registrar to request it be changed.
  • Use the form below to check the status of your domain.
  • Provided the status of your domain is OK for transfer, complete the domain's owner/admin information on the subsequent form.
  • Continue the steps above for as many domains as you wish to transfer.
  • Process the domain transfer(s) by proceeding through the Online Store.
  • Add/configure your DNS records.
  • Once your order has been submitted, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to the domain's current Admin contact. This confirmation e-mail contains instructions and a unique URL link to accept/deny the transfer request. For .biz/.info TLD's, you will also be required to provide an AUTH_CODE that was issued on the original registration of the domain.
  • Once the Admin owner approves the transfer, the transfer will usually complete in 3-5 days, but could be as long as ten, depending on the losing registrar. You can speed this up by contacting the original registrar and specifically requesting that they approve the transfer.
  • You will be notified by e-mail (sent to the address in your contact information) upon completion of the domain transfer. The final step requires you to manually edit the nameservers to:
    • ns1.pointclark.net
    • ns2.pointclark.net
    • ns3.pointclark.net
    • ns4.pointclark.net
    using the WHOIS manager.

Do you offer OEM or turnkey solutions?
