Okay, so @sonhadordobosque pretty much nailed the steps for resetting, but can we just pause and appreciate how unnecessarily stressful this whole process is? Seriously, why does Apple make it feel like you’re inputting cheat codes on an old video game console just to get your phone to listen to you again?
Here’s something extra they didn’t mention: make sure your fingers know their choreography before attempting this. Timing matters! You mess up one step, and instead of a rescue, you’re back at square one, staring at a frozen screen and questioning life choices. Been there. (Also, don’t press buttons for too long, or you might accidentally trigger SOS mode, which is a delightful nightmare in itself.)
Now, if this soft reset tango still doesn’t do the trick, there’s another card to play—plug that sucker into a computer and try a forced restore via iTunes (ugh, iTunes, I know). In iTunes, slap the device into recovery mode. It’s basically telling your iPhone, “Get your act together.” You might lose unsaved data, though, so brace yourself for possible heartbreak.
Also, worth saying, iPhones shouldn’t freeze this often (unless you’re running out of storage or have janky apps), so if this hard reset starts becoming a regular thing, maybe consider talking to a Genius Bar employee or doing the ol’ factory reset before you yeet it out a window.
At least we’re not dealing with 2003 flip phones anymore, I guess.
